Our client was established in 1997 and has grown to operating 75 tractor and 140 trailer units operating out of 3 depots across Yorkshire.

Due to contract success for 2008 our client is now seeking an additional Transport Planner.

The position involves working closely with the rest of the traffic team, planning the traffic, sourcing back loads, liaising with drivers, customers and sub contractors fleet comprises a mixture of 41/44 tonne tractor units, all with 13.6 metre flat or curtain comprises s
The day to day responsibility of the transport planning function, planning and optimizing transport resources maximizing productivity, service and profitability.

The successful candidate will plan scheduling and manage the re-route process and source back loads.
In addition, they will take overall ownership of daily route planning whilst interfacing and communicating with operational / transport management and clients alike to ensure the fulfilment of contractual obligations of each client.

Reporting into the Transport Manager key tasks will include the use of our clients software (Roadrunner) to ensure optimum planning and fulfillment of their customers orders, upkeep and maintenance of the systems operational database and planning and allocation of orders in the most cost effective manner to meet the service expectations of our client.

You will generate, circulate and monitor all operational documentation in a timely manner and monitor the on going development of client specific operational procedures.

You will develop and enhance controls, procedures and systems within the business and to comply with all Company Policies and promote quality initiatives.

You will ensure all requirements of the Health and Safety policy and current legislation are met.

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an accomplished Traffic Planner with transport experience ideally gained in a third party logistics environment.

You should have experience of using project planning software ideally Roadrunner

You will also need to be commercially aware, capable of producing quotations and negotiating with customers direct.

Superb communication skills and instant credibility are essential, as is an innovative and analytical approach. You will combine ambition with a flexible outlook, strong commercial acumen and have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities.

Finally you should have very good IT / PC skills with advanced skills on generic packages such as Microsoft Office. Experience using mainframes, databases and pc networks would be useful with views on data integrity, security, back - ups etc.
