Our client is an express parcels carrier and with a network of depots across the UK they are a major player in what is a fast moving and competitive sector.

They are currently seeking a Nightshift Manager for their busy depot located in the North West.

Reporting into the Operations Manager, the Nightshift Manager has the overall responsibility of the nightshift operation managing teams in the receipt, unloading and accurate sortation of inbound consignments and loading of the outbound deliveries to and from the depot.

The position involves managing a team of around 20 staff and working normally Sunday to Thursday night, 8pm : 4am. However with volumes already increasing as a result of Xmas orders there will be a regular requirement within the next 2 months to work an additional shift on the Friday evening for which the job holder will be paid double time.

Key responsibilities are the management, recruitment, training and development of the nightshift staff, driving up service levels and managing costs in line with agreed targets.

Knowledge and Skills:

To succeed, you should have warehouse and / or operations management experience within a fast moving time sensitive environment, ideally gained within the express parcels sector.

Your previous experience should ideally include managing or supervising a nightshift operation coupled with sortation operations experience and a sound grasp of current practice and H&S legislation.

Demonstrating exceptional leadership, communication and motivational skills, you will be responsible for the planning and organizing of all nightshift operations activities and managing all nightshift warehouse staff.

Excellent communication and inter-personal skills are essential and you must have the strength of character required for being the senior manager on site at night, yet, be approachable and visible.

You should be self-motivated, someone who can inspire others with the ability to continually identify process improvement opportunities.

You will combine ambition with a flexible outlook and have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities.

Finally you should have the necessary inter-personal skills to effectively work as part of a depot management team.
