Our client is an express parcels carrier and with a network of depots across the UK they are a major player in what is a fast moving and competitive sector.
They are now seeking an Interim Transport Operations Manager at their depot located in North London.
The Company is involved in a major change programme in which the Branch Manager and Operations Manager is heavily involved. The purpose of this interim appointment is to bring in an accomplished Transport Manager who will have the overall control and accountability of the Transport Operation.
The successful candidate will ensure transport legislation and company policy is adhered to and health and safety standards are maintained within the confines of the locations transport operation.
You will ensure customers are provided with a high quality, professional collection and delivery service in accordance with the requirements of our clients customers , ensuring that our clients image to the general public is protected at all times.
You will have control of Driving Crews with the overall responsibility for recruitment, selection, training and performance issues. You will monitor and review performance of staff to ensure that targets are achieved or beaten within budgeted costs and will discipline, counsel and coach staff as and when required.
You will plan in advance to ensure that all areas within the Specialised Operations Transport Operation are being managed and resources utilised effectively and will implement control systems to benefit the operation.
Finally you will communicate and liaise with internal and external departments, external agencies, suppliers and customers to ensure the smooth running of the Specialised Operations Transport Operation and will carry out general admin duties as required, including checks to ensure the accuracy of invoices received

Knowledge and Skills:
To meet this challenge you will be an accomplished Transport Supervisor or Manager with your experience gained in an express parcels or similar multi :drop environment.
Demonstrating exceptional leadership, communication and motivational skills, you will plan and organize all transport activities, manage all transport staff and forge good working relationships with customers.
You should have in-depth transport supervisory / management experience, coupled with a sound grasp of current practice and transport legislation. A CPC is desirable and the sort of proactive approach that will keep our Client?s transport department moving forward.
Astute with a strong customer focus, you will have the confidence to make an immediate contribution. You will be a relationship builder and team player incorporating an involved style with a determination to succeed and make things happen.
Experience of dealing with trade unions is highly desirable and knowledge of HASAW, road transport and employment legislation is essential.
You will be PT / IT literate, a strong and confident communicator, and have a flexible and enthusiastic approach.
Please note this is an interim contract which is expected to last for 6 months. Prospects of staying with our client if successful in the role.
Salary is likely to be in a range of £30-35k.
