The Role:
To enable our Client?s distribution centre staff to give our Client their best they are seeking a DC Transport Manager at their ambient grocery distribution centre in Essex, willing to lead by example.
Reporting into the DC Operations Manager, the role is challenging and involves the day to day responsibility of the transport function. With the support of a team of Transport Team Managers, the successful candidate will manage a large team of drivers and support staff.
Key responsibilities are:
§ Manage all transport within the site including vehicle maintenance
§ Develop and review the service / MOT plan for LGV and related equipment
§ Manage scheduling system to maximize delivery capacity
§ Work with stores to ensure peak delivery performance
§ Manage large team of drivers to ensure full legal and security compliance
§ Support new store openings through effective planning and co-ordination
§ Enforce Driver Dress Code
§ Implement and maintain Trunking routines
§ Coach Team Managers
§ Report and investigate all accidents / incidents
§ Review Well Driven reports and take appropriate action
§ Develop and manage tractor and trailer cleaning programme
§ Develop and implement initiatives to continuously improve operational performance and service standards
§ Ensure the DC?s transport operations processes are managed within our Client?s Health and Safety, Legal and Security policy framework.
This role is a key part in the distribution centre operation in the achievement of balanced targets in the areas of people, operations, customers and finance.

Knowledge and Skills:
Our client is looking for an experienced and ambitious Transport Manager who can cope with an extremely fast paced environment and who will relish the sheer scope this position provides.
You will need to demonstrate the ability to translate our Client?s vision into how you and your team will operate daily, as well as a hands on approach to succeed in a demanding environment.
Candidates must have substantial transport management experience ideally gained in a retail DC environment. A CPC is essential and the ability to plan and organise effectively is of paramount importance. Experience of Paragon is highly desirable.
Excellent inter-personal and communication skills coupled with influencing skills are essential as is the ability to lead and inspire your team.
As an experienced leader of people you will have the proactive ability to challenge existing practices and drive through change to benefit the business.
You will be tenacious, getting things done by showing determination and urgency and you will be committed to continuous improvement by constantly looking for opportunities to deliver continuous improvement.
Knowledge of health and safety legislation and experience of implementing H & S measures is also a key requirement.
