Our Client is the leading distributor of non- food related products to the catering, licensed, hospitality and leisure sectors. But that just scratches the surface. Our client is also a fast thinking, fast moving organisation that is redefining supply chain logistics to non- food related products and is looking for a like minded Assistant Transport Manager to add their energy and innovation to theirs.

Reporting into the Transport Manager you will assist them in the day to day responsibility of the transport team in achieving departmental targets. Assisted by your team you will assist in the running of a busy Transport office, control the routes by allocating vehicles and drivers, ensure all routes are loaded and leave on time and monitor and maintain the delivery requirements of our Clients various customers.

You will ensure that all employees act in compliance with our Clients procedures, Department of Transport and Working Time Regulations. You will promote Health and Safety best practice ensuring regular checks are carried out.

You will assist the Transport Manager in managing resourcing levels through efficient control of absence/holidays and will implement agreed targets and standards which support the achievement of the Company?s objectives.

Finally you will be expected to assist in managing the demands of the operation dealing with problems that may arise in a professional, effective manner and will develop positive relationships with other departments, whilst ensuring employee communication is regularly monitored. Finally will provide advice and support to working colleagues in an approachable manner along with ensuring employees are aware and adhere to all Company policies and procedures.

Knowledge and Skills:

To succeed, you should have transport supervisory management experience within a fast moving wholesaling or time sensitive environment, ideally gained within the foodservice sector.

You should have in-depth transport supervisory / management experience, coupled with a sound grasp of current practice and transport legislation. A CPC is desirable and the sort of proactive approach that will keep our Client?s transport department moving forward.

Demonstrating good leadership, communication and motivational skills, you should be self-motivated, someone who can inspire others with the ability to continually identify process improvement opportunities.

You will combine ambition with a flexible outlook and have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities.

Finally you should have the necessary inter-personal skills to effectively work as part of a management team.
