This fantastic opportunity has arisen to work within the public sector as Technical Officer/Engineering Assistant

You will provide technical support to the contracts Section for the day-to-day operation of the service provided by the section. Work duties to include handling drainage and building maintenance queries, working on the civil engineering asset management plan, historical/plans reserach, site investigation, surveys and providing technical input and advice into planning applications.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. To assist with and deal with enquiries regarding drainage, engineering and building maintenance matters by demonstrating good communication and consultation skills with both external customers and internal partners.

2. To undertake investigations and surveys, and assist with the preparation of reports, designs, specifications and contract documents for engineering, drainage and building maintenance schemes.

3. To project manage minor civil engineering schemes, minor drainage schemes and minor building maintenance works.

4. To monitor site works and assist with the project management of larger schemes carried out by the contracts section.

5. To research historical information and carry out investigations of records to respond to enquiries and assist officers within the contracts section.

6. To assist with the preparation of the asset management plan (civil engineering infrastructure) and to carry out site surveys and monitoring visits.

7. To assist in the drainage appraisal of planning applications, taking on the smaller applications following training and providing drainage advise to the planning officers.

8. To respond to Land Charge Searches with the drainage information requested.

9. To assist in the preparation of Cabinet, Committee and Panel Reports for projects undertaken by the Contracts section.

10. To observe the requirements of the Health and Safety at Work Act and ensure the safety of self and work colleagues by carrying out duties in a safe manner within the guidelines as set out by the Act.

11. To undertake any other duties commensurate with the general level of responsibility of the post.
