Our clients? civil engineering structures team has an opportunity due to increasing workload for a Principal Engineer with a desire to work on exciting infrastructure projects. The position will be one of responsibility for leading design teams and mentoring and developing junior design staff. You would be expected to be technically proficient in the design of bridge and civil engineering structures associated with infrastructure works. We are looking for individuals who wish to progress their careers and develop as leaders in their field, working both internally and with clients. We are currently providing design services on a variety of infrastructure projects in the tunnelling, rail and highway sectors within the UK and internationally. You will need a Civil engineering related degree, BEng level minimum, or equivalent, chartered (ICE or IStructE), also good technical experience in bridge design and the design of civil structures for infrastructure projects. Experience working with contractors on design and build projects, good understanding of the DMRB and British standards, good working knowledge of CDM requirements, knowledge of the application of Eurocodes, experience in the detailed design of tunnels (cut & cover, immersed tube, bored) and retaining structures, experience in the detailed design of all forms of bridge structure, good knowledge of soil-structure interaction, a knowledge of business management systems to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.

You will be providing leadership to design teams, mentoring and development of junior technical staff, ensuring design work is undertaken in accordance with quality procedures and CDM legislation, managing programme and budgets of design work, managing internal and external communications, managing project risk. You must have an interest in continuous improvement Be able to work on own initiative and under pressure, when necessary, be a good communicator at all levels, both orally and in writing with accuracy and attention to detail, interested in personal technical development in specific fields, willingness to learn, develop and widen experience.
