Our client is looking for a contracts and procurement adviser to enlarge and strengthen their East Grinstead team.
The position is a senior one. It would suit an engineer or procurement specialist who has extensive experience in the construction of and contract strategy and commercial negotiation issues involved in the procurement of large (up to £1500m capital value) road and rail infrastructure projects in the UK or abroad. A significant and demanding part of your work will be associated with dialogue with those who provide the finance for implementation of projects; therefore an ability to be able to talk carefully and knowledgably to non engineers about complex engineering issues is essential. The work involves tight deadlines and requires extensive report writing.
You will need to develop long term relationships with those in the finance and legal world who also advise upon projects within the pfi/ppp market.
Therefore some knowledge of the financial world would be a distinct advantage for this position. A good working knowledge of standard forms such as ICE, NEC and FIDIC; their use and pitfalls, would be required by any candidate. Once established in the Team you will be responsible for the ongoing need for advice to Clients for the projects upon which you work. You will also assist others with the ongoing bidding for work; market tracking and development of opportunity. Maintenance and growth of Client relationships are an essential part of the role and the ability to develop these is essential. The position also involves provision of contract and procurement strategy advice to other teams within Capita Symonds to assist them in their work in the non pfi/ppp general engineering market. This work is also varied and interesting and presently involves inputs to road, rail and environmental sectors.
There will be extensive interaction with executives of bidding groups; City based financiers; legal experts as well as senior engineers during the everyday task. An ability to ?get on and interact? with people is therefore important. Repeat business is an important feature of the Teams workload and the ability to maintain relationships is important.
