Our Client manages a large food distribution contract from a modern multi-temperature distribution centre located in Kabul, Afghanistan on behalf of one of the countries who is participating in ISAF, the multi-national peacekeeping force in Afghanistan.

They are currently seeking an accomplished Workshop Manager who will work nights (18.00 to 0.300), 6 nights a week and effectively manage the workshop servicing and maintaining of a fleet of trucks and MHE equipment.

Reporting into the Site Services Division Maintenance Manager the successful candidate will be responsible for the daily operation of the engineering workshop and managing a team of engineering technicians in order to maximise productivity and efficiency, whilst maintaining a safe and cohesive working environment.

You will translate operational and financial targets into team and individual objectives and ensure compliance with company standard operating procedures.

Specifically, during the nightshift periods, you will manage and ensure that all repairs and maintenance on the fleet of vehicles and associated equipment are completed to current best practice standards.

You will maintain all other equipment within scope to the very highest standards possible and will complete all reports as required in the performance of your duties. In addition you will document all relevant work orders, job cards and other documentation in support of the role.

Finally you will implement and maintain work place Health and Safety initiatives, and enforce company policy with regards to workplace health and safety.

Knowledge and Skills:

You should be an accomplished Vehicle Workshop Manager with experience of managing a similar workshop operation and ideally hold an engineering qualification.

You should possess an excellent knowledge of all mechanical and electrical systems, including diagnostic checks, technical inspections and complete workshop repairs on varied heavy and light vehicle fleet vehicles, generators and other mechanical equipment, including Material Handling Equipment.

Familiar with fleet management systems and standard computer software packages, you should be a confident communicator with the ability to motivate your team and coach and develop others.

With good analytical skills, you should have an eye for detail and a desire to achieve engineering excellence.

A military background would be very useful as would experience of working in post conflict or remote locations.

You should possess excellent communication skills in English and ideally one other language and be able to adapt to rapid changes in a positive manner and work to tight deadlines.

Superb inter-personal skills and instant credibility are essential as you will be inter-facing with a number of people from different backgrounds, nationalities and religions.

You will be resourceful with a flexible outlook, have the ability to multi-task in order to handle competing priorities and be able to fit in to an international dynamic and multi-cultural environment.

Finally you should possess a Drivers Licence.

This is an outstanding challenge for an accomplished Workshop Manager looking for something different. Whilst our Clients operation is somewhat unique they are in it for the long term and are looking for a minimum of 18 to 24 months commitment.

The basic salary is paid in US Dollars and is tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee. In addition there is a bonus payable after 12 months service which is paid annually and is also paid in US Dollars and tax free for an Ex-Patriate employee.

Accommodation, laundry, local transport, health insurance and meals are provided free. In addition employees have the use of a phone to call family and friends and also the internet for e-mails etc.

Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 63 days annual leave per year and the working rota is broadly 14 weeks on, 3.5 weeks off

Western Ex-Patriate employees will receive 3 paid return economy flights per year and Mobilization and De-Mobilization flights are also paid for by our client.
