My client is a defence / aerospace companyseeking a manager with a strong background in business improvement techniques to lead an improvement initiative concerning the procurement of hardware for advanced telecommunications payloads. The aim of the initiative is to reduce equipment lead times and costs for the supply of hardware from external suppliers, using stock policy as a key lever.
The successful candidate will have a proven track record in the application of
business/process improvement methodologies in a procurement or production environment. The candidate will also have strong leadership, communication and organisational qualities, with an ability to interface and influence at all levels, both with external suppliers and within
the company to director level. Knowledge and experience of the tools associated with process improvements, management of change and demand management would be
an advantage. The improvement initiative duration is nominally two years with potential for progression to a senior programme management or functional management role.
Specific Tasks to be Undertaken:
Specific tasks will include the following :
Leadership of the company improvement initiative focused on stock policy for advanced telecommunications payload equipments.
Preparation of detailed programme plan, including schedule, milestones and costs
Implementation of the programmes working closely with stakeholders within the company (including senior management) and with key external suppliers
Negotiation with key suppliers on stock policy, including funding strategy
Preparation of stock policy document covering key suppliers and securing company investment via senior management approval
Experience required:
Essential: A demonstrated high level of competence and proficiency in the application of business/process improvement methodologies in a procurement or production environment. Proven ability to interface effectively with suppliers/subcontractors and with senior management.
Desirable: Experience in the space, aerospace or defence industries.
Tools/Equipment
Mandatory: PC literate, MS Office
Desirable: working knowledge of lean tools
Qualifications:
Essential: Degree in relevant Engineering or Business
Management discipline. Highly motivated with strong
leadership, communication and organisational qualities.
Desirable: Higher relevant technical or management
qualification (eg MBA). Knowledge of telecommunications
payloads would be an advantage.
Personal Qualities:
Strong management and leadership qualities. Well organised,
communicative and determined, with the ability to work on
own initiative
